 All Parents and Guardians

 

School Fees: The fees for 2019-20 have now been determined by the Board of Governors. Please read a letter from the Chair of Governors regarding fees here. For information on paying fees in advance, please see the letter here.

 


 

Events and Reminders

 

Friday 10th May: Lost Property - In accordance with our Lost Property Policy the lost property collected during the Spring term will be on display outside Townson from 4.15 to 5.15pm on Friday 10th May. If you think your son/daughter may have misplaced any items, please do check. Any unclaimed items will be given to the Nearly New Shop or to charity after this date.

 

Friday 10th May: Nearly New Shop – The Nearly New Shop is open from 4.30–5.30pm at Fryer House. For more information visit the Nearly New Shop area of the website.

 

Monday 13th May: PSC Book Group - The PSC Book Group will next meet at 7.00pm on Monday evening in the Library, to discuss the novel ‘A Gentleman in Moscow’ by Amor Towles. All parents, guardians and staff are welcome. For more information, please visit the PSC page on the website.

 

Monday 13th May: PSC Committee Meeting – All staff, parents and guardians are welcome to attend the committee meeting taking place on from 6.30pm in the Cadbury Room.

 

RSVP Tuesday 14th May: Rambert Dance Company –There are a few seats left for students wishing to see our national dance company, Rambert, at Sadler’s Wells next week. Further information about the trip can be found in the attached letter. Please complete the form here by this Friday, 10th May, if you would like your son/daughter to join us. Tuesday 14th May: IET Diversity STEM Talk – There will be a STEM careers talk at UTC Reading from 4.30 to 5.30pm next week. Sarah-Jane Crawford, Route Services Programme Manager at Network Rail, and her colleagues, will discuss how Network Rail is changing and the opportunities within the industry. Please see attached poster for more information. Please note this is a recommended event for students interested in a career in STEM and not a School trip. If your son or daughter would like to attend, please do make your own arrangements for travel.

 


 

 Year 7

 

RSVP Language Options for 2019/20 Year 7 students moving into Year 8 next year should select a second modern foreign language from Mandarin, German or French while continuing their studies in Spanish. Provision for English as an Additional Language (EAL) is also available for eligible students. Please complete the attached form by Friday 24th May to select your son/daughter’s language choice for Year 8. If you should have any queries, please contact Anna Murgett, Modern Foreign Languages teacher.

 

Friday 10th May: Fryer Parents’ Tea – All parents and guardians with children in Year 7 or 8 are warmly invited to attend the next Fryer Parents’ Tea from 4.30pm in Fryer House. The Nearly New Shop will be available and tea/coffee will be served.

Year 8

RSVP Thursday 27th June: Big Bang Fair South East - Students are invited to an opportunity to visit the Big Bang Fair South East which aims to engage and inspire students by exploring interactive exhibitions, meeting STEM role models and discovering STEM career opportunities. Year 10

 

RSVP Saturday 15th – Friday 21st June: Montpellier French Trip - If your son/daughter has already signed up for the French trip, please see the attached letter for more details. Please note the balance of £610 is due by Wednesday 15th May. If you should have any queries, please contact Caroline Semeyn, French teacher.

 

RSVP Sunday 16th – Friday 21st June: Malaga Trip -Spanish GCSE students are invited to join a trip to Malaga in June 2019 to expand their Spanish language skills. For more information please see attached letter and complete the attached medical, dietary and behavioural consent form here by Friday 17th May. Year 11

Year 11 Day Students

Travel during Exam Period: We are aware of a number of significant roadworks, including those on the Reading IDR at Vastern Road, which may have an impact on travel times during the public examination period. It is essential that students arrive at School in good time for their examinations so please do check your route and adjust your usual travel plans if necessary.

 

Library Books: Please could Year 11 students return all of their library books before exam leave. If any books are required to support your son/daughter’s studies please ask them to come to the library to arrange an extended loan. If you have any queries, please contact our Librarian, Chris Routh.

 

Tuesday 18th June: Year 11 Academic Induction Day - Students should arrive at Peckover Hall at 9.00am for taster lessons and a discussion of some of the co-curricular activities on offer to Sixth Form students. Please bring your phone, notebook and a pen. Please wear Sixth Form Collect dress. A reminder of the dress code can be found on our website. If you are not able to attend on this day, please email Helen Taylor, Head of Sixth Form.

 

RSVP Friday 6th – Sunday 8th September: Sixth Form Adventure Weekend – Students joining the Lower Sixth in September 2019 are invited to PGL Adventure Centre trip in the Isle of Wight.
