Great Ideals Reaffirmed: Leighton Park School and The Second World War’ - The School Archivist, John Allinson, and his co-authors Charlotte Smith and Penny Wallington have published a new book, which you can read more about here. Books are now on sale at £8.50. If you would like to buy one or more copies please fill in the attached form. If you wish us to post the book(s) to you please note UK p+p is £2.50 extra for one or two books. Non-UK postage: please enquire.

 


 

 

Events and Reminders

 

Sunday 1st December: Reading Family Aid – Amicus and Reading Family Aid are asking for your generous donations, in aid of the Toys and Teens Appeal 2019. If you would like to support the cause which helps disadvantaged children, aged 0 to 16, in Reading at this festive time of year, please donate your gifts to Old School Reception by Sunday 1st December. Watch Amicus launching the appeal with Reading Family Aid on That's TV.

 

Wednesday 4th December: Christmas Concert – The Christmas Concert will take place at 7.00pm in the Main Hall, Michael Malnick Centre on Wednesday 4th December. This year it will be preceded by a special festive Yamaha Silent event, in the Foyer from 6.00-7.00pm. All are welcome to attend.

 

Friday 6th December: Lurner Prize 2019 – The Art Department are calling for creative offerings from across the School community for this year’s Lurner Prize. Be it painting, drawing, sculpture, creative writing, short film, textile or simply something handmade from the last 12 months - get involved! Please mail Mark Wood with a photo of your entry or drop it into the department by Friday 6th December to be considered in the running. The top ten entries will be shortlisted in December ahead of showcasing them and the ‘winner’ will be announced at Christmas Collect.

 

Sunday 8th December: Christmas Evening Meeting – All are welcome to attend Christmas Evening Meeting from 7.00-8.15pm in Main Hall, Michael Malnick Centre, followed by community carol singing in the Upper Foyer until 9.00pm.

 


 

 

Year 7 

 

Assessment Week Results – Assessment week results are now available on the Parent Portal for parents and guardians of students in Years 7-10. If you should have any difficultly accessing the Parent Portal please contact Elaine Storey, Data Manager.

 

Thursday 23rd January: English Theatre Trip - As part of their wider reading and enrichment in English, Year 7 students are being offered the chance to attend the fantasy comedy ‘Wyrd Sisters’ by Terry Prachett at the Progress Theatre, Reading. Tickets will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, at the cost of £10. Please see the attached letter for more details and if your son/daughter would like to attend please complete the online form by Monday 2nd December. Year 11 

 

Mock Exam Timetable – Please find attached the Year 11 mock exam timetable for January 2020 and see the attached letter for more information. If you should have any queries please contact Sarah Gill, Exams Officer.

 

Careers Interviews - Year 11 careers interviews have begun and will continue to take place throughout the week in the Careers Library or the Careers Office in Townson. Students will be meeting with a qualified careers advisor from Morrisby, who will discuss next steps and future education and career aspirations. Students are reminded to check their appointment time and venue with their form tutor and to arrive a few minutes before their appointment is due to start.

 

RSVP Africa 2020 – A reminder that any remaining applications to go to Uganda or Tanzania in October 2020 need to be in as soon as possible. The final date for submitting an application form is Friday 13th December, but if you wish to be invoiced on the School bill then the application needs to be in by Monday 9th December. Please see the attached document for key trip information. If you should have any queries please contact, Helen Taylor, Head of Sixth Form, who will be able to forward enquiries to Beth Chapman from Inspire Worldwide if necessary.

RSVP Africa 2020 – A reminder that any remaining applications to go to Uganda or Tanzania in October 2020 need to be in as soon as possible. The final date for submitting an application form is Friday 13th December, but if you wish to be invoiced on the School bill then the application needs to be in by Monday 9th December. Please see the attached document for key trip information. If you should have any queries please contact, Helen Taylor, Head of Sixth Form, who will be able to forward enquiries to Beth Chapman from Inspire Worldwide if necessary.

Please find more information and the accompanying menu choices in the attached letter. Please complete the form here if your son/daughter would like to attend and ensure your son/daughter also completes the Google form for their menu choices immediately here. The cost of the meal will be £25.
