Notices

 

BSA Covid-Safe Charter - We continue to carefully plan for the reopening of the School in September. As part of this, we are pleased to confirm that we have signed up to the Boarding Schools Association Covid-Safe Charter.

 

Term Dates 2020-2021 - Please find attached term dates for the next academic year, 2020-2021. If you should have any queries, please contact School Office.

 

School Fees 2020-21 - Communications regarding the school fees for the next academic year, 2020-2021, will be sent to parents/guardians of students from Years 7 to Lower Sixth later this week by School Office. If you should have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact Keith Eldridge, Bursar, or Jenny Rowe, Finance Manager.

 

Mouthguard Fittings - Our mouthguard provider, Impact, will be visiting Leighton Park on Thursday 10th September. If you would like your son/daughter to be fitted for a mouthguard, at a cost of £54, please complete the online form. Houses and Boarding Letter - The attached letter was sent to all parents and guardians last Wednesday, 10th June, regarding plans for House teams and boarding.

 

LP Wool Pack Community Knitting Group - English teacher, Merion Taynton, has recently established a community knitting group, the LP Wool Pack. A few of the causes they aim to support through a variety of knitting projects are; local care homes, animal rescue centres, baby charities and the premature baby unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. If you would like to find out more or take part (contributing as little or as much as you like), please join the private Facebook group, LP Wool Pack, where members are encouraged to communicate, share pictures and ideas, or alternatively, please contact Merion.

 

LP Donate - To support those in need we are collecting donations for our partner organisations. Items needed by Whitley CDA by 9.00pm, Monday 22nd June, are hygiene products. If you should have any queries, please contact Natasha Coccia, Assistant Head: Co-Curricular and Outreach.

 


 

Events

 

Wednesday 17th June: Ooh Look! LP Art Show - Today, the Art Department are delighted to launch their end of year exhibition for 2020. We hope you enjoy exploring Room 1 and Room 2. The soundtracks in each room have also been provided by Joe in the Lower Sixth. If you would like any more information on the artwork featured, please contact Mark Wood, Head of Art.

 

Wednesday 17th June: Invitation to #LPGirlsCan Events - This evening, as part of our #LPGirlsCan programme, parents and staff are encouraged to join students for a live Parkour session. Director of Sport, Jeremy Belas, is looking forward to introducing this dynamic discipline at 4.30pm today on the Sport, PE and Wellness Google Classroom.

To end the week, Personal Trainer and Ballet Dancer, rainydayfit on Instagram, will be hosting a live workout for the LP community on Friday 19th June; again all are invited, and we look forward to welcoming you.

 

Monday 22nd – Friday 26th June: Virtual Sports Week - Students will shortly receive instructions from the PE, Sport and Wellness Department on pentathlon events to take part in throughout the week for our 2020 Virtual Sports Week. Monday 22nd June: PSC Book Group - The PSC Book Group invite you to discuss ‘Everything I Never Told You’ by Celeste Ng, next Monday, 22nd June from 7.30-8.45pm. Everyone is welcome to participate regardless of whether they usually attend. The gathering will take place over Zoom, for which you can obtain the login details by contacting Fiona Francis and Nicole Fox at pscbookgroup@leightonpark.com.

 

Wednesday 24th June: LP Unlocked: The Festival of Creative Communication - Next Wednesday, 24th June, we are looking forward to showcasing an incredible array of talent across music, drama and dance in the very first virtual Festival of Creative Communications: LP Unlocked. Saturday 27th June: Digital Music for a Summer’s Evening – Undeterred by Covid-19, the popular al fresco concert, Music for a Summer’s Evening is moving online! Join us on Saturday 27th June for a varied selection of enjoyable musical pieces; you can even picnic in your own garden! More details will be shared next week. Wednesday 1st July: Whole School Collect – We will be holding our very first virtual celebration of achievement enabling the whole community to come together - albeit remotely - on Wednesday 1st July at 2.00pm. Virtual Orientation Sessions In lieu of the Orientation Day that takes place for students joining Year 9 and their parents/guardians, Virtual Orientation Sessions will be held on Tuesday 30th June. Further details, including timings, will be communicated shortly.

Year 11

 

Collect Dress and Sports Kit - The School is updating Collect Dress. The only change for next year's Lower Sixth Form students is that they will be provided with an LP pin to wear on their lapels. Due to global supply chain issues, there may be a delay in the supply of some new sportswear items. We are working closely with Schoolblazer on this. If any items are not available by the start of term, then the School will provide students with the previous branded versions at no additional cost. The revised Dress Code, from September 2020, is available here. Lower Sixth

 

Collect Dress and Sports Kit - The School is updating Collect Dress. UCAS Accounts - If your son or daughter would like to apply to university in the UK, they must now create an account with UCAS. The buzzword which will link their account to the School is ‘Leighton2021’. Sally Saunders, Head of Careers, is delivering weekly sessions on the application process, writing personal statements and studying in other countries. Recordings of these presentations can be accessed via the Lower Sixth PSHE Classroom (code: 4lahsmz). However, Sally is also meeting with individual students to support specific queries. #LPGirlsCan – Are you enjoying #LPGirlsCan?! From Gaelic Football to the more traditional sports, this week is the perfect opportunity to try something active.
