All Parents and Guardians

Long Leave: Long Leave will commence at 4.15pm on Friday 8th February and the spring term will recommence on Monday 25th February at 8.00am. School transport services will be running as normal on both of these dates.

 

Transport: If you would like to cancel or amend your child’s usage of the School’s transport service, for the summer term, please contact transport@leightonpark.com before the end of Long Leave. A half term of notice is required for changes to transport arrangements.


Treasure Island Merchandise If you would like to purchase a Treasure Island DVD (£15) or photobook (£25) as a memento of last term’s whole school production, please do so by clicking here. Orders should be placed before Friday 15th February 2019.

 


 

Events and Reminders

Wednesday 6th February: House Talent – All are welcome to attend the House Talent competition in Main Hall tonight, Wednesday 6th February, 6.30-10.00pm. Please view the poster here.

 

Thursday 7th February: Harry Potter Book Day –Harry Potter Book Day is tomorrow, Thursday 7th February. There will be fun and interesting lectures in Peckover Hall during Activities, 4.30-5.30pm. Please see the poster for more information about the event. 

 

RSVP Thursday 7th February: Drugs Awareness Talk – Please read the attached letter from Eddie Falshaw, Deputy Head, regarding the Drugs Awareness Presentation that will be taking place tomorrow, Thursday 7th February, in Main Hall from 6.00-7.30pm. The presentation is open to all parents and staff and will be led by Bob Tait. The event is designed to follow on the work the School has been doing with the whole student body over the course of last term and will also share information on hosting parties for teenagers which we hope parents will find helpful. Please RSVP to Sarah Gill, School Office Administrator, if you would like to attend.


Friday 8th February: EXPO 2019 – All students, parents and guardians are invited to attend our eighth annual public lecture series, EXPO 2019, on Friday 8th February. The speakers will be students from the Upper Sixth. The event will be held in the foyer of the Michael Malnick Centre, 6.30-8.30pm. Please see the poster here and the programme here. Please park at Grove car park accessible from the Shinfield Road entrance.


Friday 8th February: Nearly New Shop – The nearly new shop will be open Friday 18th January, from 4.30-5.30pm, in Fryer House to coincide with the Fryer Parent Tea. If you would like to see the pricelist beforehand please refer to our website.

 

Monday 11th February: Film Club - Film Club continues next Monday at 6.30pm in Fryer Cinema Room with ‘Brief Encounter’, a romantic drama directed by Old Leightonian, David Lean - just in time for Valentine’s Day! Year 10 to Upper Sixth are welcome to attend. For more information please see the poster here.

 

RSVP Monday 4th March – Friday 8th March: Book Week We are delighted to announce that we will be celebrating Book Week again this year. Please see the attached letter and poster for more information. Please complete the online form by Friday 1st March, detailing whether you give your consent for your child to purchase books from the Book Shop which will be held in the Cadbury Room. Year 7

Friday 8th February: Fryer Parent Tea – Parents and guardians are invited to the Fryer Parent Tea which will take place this Friday from 4.30-5.30pm in Fryer House. This is an informal gathering of parents across both year groups in Fryer House. Whilst staff will be there, it is primarily an opportunity for parents to meet each other. The PSC Nearly New Shop will also be open.


RSVP Tuesday 5th March: Author Steve Cole – Fryers will have the opportunity to meet author Steve Cole, on Tuesday 5th March. Steve will be delivering a talk to Fryers during Book Week and students will have the chance to purchase some of his books. Please complete the online form by Friday 1st March, confirming whether you are happy for your child to purchase books at this event. Year 9


RSVP Friday 8th February: Re-scheduled GCSE and iGCSE Options Information Evening – The GCSE and iGCSE Options Information Evening cancelled last Friday due to extreme weather conditions has been re-scheduled for this Friday, 8th February. The event is due to begin at 6.00pm in Peckover Hall and we advise those attending use the car park by Grove. Please see the attached letter for more information and note the tours of the Michael Malnick Centre planned for last week’s event will no longer be available. If you have any queries about the event please contact Karen Gracie-Langrick, Deputy Head (Academic).

Friday 1st March: Parents’ Consultation Evening – The Year 9 Parents’ Consultation Evening is due to take place on Friday 1st March, 6.15-9.00pm in Oakview. Please see the attached letter for details and book your appointments via the ParentPortal by 2.00pm on Thursday 28th February. Instructions for online bookings are in the letter. Year 10

RSVP Saturday 15th June – Friday 21st June: Montpellier Trip – Year 10 French students are invited on a trip to Montpellier, France, next term to enhance their language skills and enjoy immersion in French culture. If you think your son or daughter would like to attend please see the attached letter for more information and complete the online form by Monday 25th February. Year 11

Friday 8th February: Sixth Form Choices – Year 11 students have now received their mock results and we would like to collate their preferred Sixth Form subject choices. Please refer to either the IB Options Form or the A Level Options Form and encourage your child to complete these by this Friday, 8th February, before returning them to Karen Gracie-Langrick, Deputy Head (Academic).

RSVP Monday 11th February: Sixth Form Politics Trip – Sixth Form Politics students are invited to attend a trip to Westminster Palace and the Supreme Court on Monday 11th February. If you think your son or daughter would like to attend please read the attached letter, complete the online form and submit payment of £25 as soon as possible. RSVP Thursday 7th March: Psychology Trip to London –AS Level Psychology students are invited to course relevant exhibitions at the National History Museum and Science Museum in London. Details are in the attached letter. If your son/daughter would like to attend please complete the online form and submit payment of £28 as soon as possible. RSVP Tuesday 12th March – Tuesday 14th March: History and Politics Trip to Auschwitz – If your child is attending the History and Politics trip to Auschwitz, Poland, from 12th to 14th March, please see the attached letter which includes important information about the trip. Please complete the online form and submit payment of £80 by Friday 15th February. If you have any queries about the trip please contact Chris Tyer, History teacher.

 

RSVP Tuesday 2nd April: Africa Inspired Dinner – Participants in the October 2018 Africa trips to Tanzania and Uganda are invited with their parents/guardians to a simple vegetarian African meal in Oakview at 7.30pm on Tuesday 2nd April. There is no charge for this event. A memento book will be given out to each student and additional copies can be ordered for £10 each in advance. Further details are in the attached letter. To confirm your attendance and to order memento books please complete the online form by Monday 4th March. Upper Sixth

 

RSVP Monday 11th February: Sixth Form Politics Trip – Sixth Form Politics students are invited to attend a trip to Westminster Palace and Surpeme Court on Monday 11th February. If you think your son or daughter would like to attend please read the attached letter, complete the online form and submit payment of £25 as soon as possible. Monday 25th February - Friday 1st March: Upper Sixth Mock Examinations – Mock exams will take place during the week after Long Leave, Monday 25th February to Friday 1st March. All students have been sent the timetable for the week and it is important that they take careful note of the exact start time for each of their exams. You can view the timetable here. Students should assemble quietly in the foyer of Peckover Hall at least ten minutes before each exam is due to start, so that exams can start promptly. Please remind your child to bring the equipment required for their exam in a clear pencil case, or clear bag. They should also refer to the JCQ regulations in the attached document.
