Wednesday 22nd January: Soloists’ Concert – The Soloists’ Concert will take place tonight, Wednesday 22nd January, at 7.00pm in the Michael Malnick Centre Foyer, finishing by approximately 8.00pm. All are welcome to attend. Please see the attached programme for more information.

 

RSVP Friday 24th January: Talk from Shyam Bhatia - A fascinating opportunity to hear first-hand from Old Leightonian, former war correspondent and past winner of the Foreign Journalist of the Year Award, Shyam Bhatia. His book ‘Bullets and Bylines’ covers an amazing career at the front-line of Middle Eastern politics and meetings with global figures from Benazir Bhutto to Yasser Arafat. The talk will take place at 3.00pm in Peckover Hall, followed by refreshments. Please book your free ticket here. RSVP Tuesday 4th – 7th February: Chicago Production – Tickets for the School’s long-anticipated production Chicago, by Fred Ebb, are on sale here. The show will run from Tuesday 4th – Friday 7th February starting at 7.00pm, in the Main Hall, Michael Malnick Centre. Please see the attached poster for more details. Parents and guardians may like to be aware that this is a Senior Production involving students in Year 10 and above. The content may not be appropriate for those below Year 8.

 

RSVP Tuesday 4th – Friday 7th February: Volunteer Request for Chicago Bar - The PSC will be running a licensed bar in the MMC Foyer serving both soft and alcoholic drinks and snacks, before and during the intervals of the Chicago Performances. Interval drinks can also be pre-ordered to be collected from the Upper Foyer. If you are able to help with staffing the bar, taking pre-orders etc, please sign up following the link. All profits will go to support Music and Drama at Leighton Park. If you should have any queries, please contact the PSC.

 

RSVP Tuesday 11th February: Parent Talk on Social Media and Screen Time - The second workshop in our pastoral care series for parents, will take place on Tuesday 11th February from 7.00-8.30pm in Peckover Hall. RSVP Monday 2nd – Friday 6th March: Book Week – We are looking forward to our Annual Book Week, during which students will have opportunities to participate in a number of activities and events. Please see the attached letter for more information on this year’s programme as well as the Book Shop. To grant permission for your son/daughter to make any purchases in the Book Shop, please complete the online form by Friday 28th February. Saturday 28th March: National Quaker Schools’ Concert – A number of Leighton Park students are participating in the National Quaker Schools’ Choir Concert, to be held in York on Saturday 28th March at 7.00pm. Year 7 

 

Fryer Refurbishment Presentation - Thank you to all those families who were able to join us last Friday evening at the Fryer Parent Tea, where we were delighted to share the School’s exciting plans for the re-opening of Fryer Boarding from September 2020. For those who were unable to make it, or if you would like a reminder of the forthcoming changes, please see the attached presentation which includes the architect’s impressions together with the floor plan for the new first floor layout. Thursday 23rd January: Wyrd Sisters Theatre Trip - We are looking forward to the Year 7 theatre trip tomorrow to see Wyrd Sisters at the Progress Theatre, as part of their wider reading and enrichment in English. If your son/daughter has booked a place on the trip please ensure that they wear Collect Dress and have wet weather gear, as we will be walking to the Progress Theatre. We will be meeting at Fryer House, no later than 7.00pm and returning to Fryer House around 10.30pm. There will be an interval, therefore students are welcome to bring cash for snacks and drinks. RSVP Monday 24th – Friday 28th August: Rugby Tour – As part of a presentation programme for the next academic year, we are planning an U14 and U15 Rugby Tour to France. The cost of the tour will be £820 per student. Please see the attached letter for more information. In order to secure a place for your son, please provide a non-refundable deposit of £200 along with the online form, no later than Friday 31st January. Year 9

 

RSVP Friday 24th January: Change of Venue for GCSE Options Information Evening - The MMC Main Hall is now available for the Year 9 GCSE and IGCSE Options Information Evening. We are thankful to Peter Scoggins, Head of Drama, and his team for enabling us to have the hall during the preparations for the School production. The Options Evening will now be held in the Main Hall, within the Michael Malnick Centre from 6.00-8.00pm on Friday 24th September. Please see the attached letter for more information. We would be grateful if you could confirm your attendance by emailing School Office by Tuesday 21st January, indicating the numbers attending.

 

Tuesday 28th January: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio (Td/IPV), Meningitis ACWY Immunisations Reminder – If you completed the immunisation form allowing your son/daughter to receive these injections, they will take place next Tuesday 28th January. Please see the attached letter for more information and do not hesitate to contact the Health Centre should you have any queries.

RSVP Sunday 21st June - Friday 26th June: Málaga Trip - Year 10 Spanish GCSE students have the opportunity to attend a residential language trip to Málaga in Spain. The trip is expected to leave on Sunday 21st June, returning the following Friday, 26th June. The cost of this trip should not exceed £750. This price depends, however, on the number of pupils participating in the trip. If you would like to reserve a place for your son/daughter, please complete the online form by Friday 24th January with a non-refundable payment of £750. Year 11 

 

Mock Examination Results and Resits - Results of the recent mock examinations are now being shared with students by their classroom teachers. The results will also be published on the Parent Portal on Wednesday 29th January. Students who would benefit from another attempt at a mock paper(s) will be invited to attend a resit day on Saturday 29th February. RSVP Friday 31st January: Parents’ Consultation Evening - We are holding an important Parents' Consultation Evening on Friday 31st January from 6.15–9.00pm in Oakview, which is a change of timing and venue from the information previously circulated. We ask parents/guardians to please book their appointments online by logging onto the Parent Portal on the School website. These drop-in sessions will run on Tuesday evenings from 6.15-8.45pm initially, and then life drawing classes hosted by the School will follow, later in the term. Lower Sixth

 

Driving Lessons - A reminder for students and parents that driving lessons, whilst important, must not be booked at a time that will result in lessons being missed. This includes games sessions and PSHE lessons. An exception may be made for tests as we are aware that these cannot be scheduled for specific times. RSVP Work Experience Placement at Pfizer – A great opportunity has arisen for Lower Sixth students to complete a work experience placement with Pfizer in Hurley, during July 2020. Please see the attached notice for more information, as well as a draft agenda for the week. RSVP Thursday 25th – Friday 26th June: Residential Geography Field Trip - As an integral part of the Sixth Form AS Level and IB courses, the Geography Department are taking all Lower Sixth Geography students on a residential field trip to South Devon in June. The all-inclusive cost of the trip will be £280. This will include transport, accommodation, meals and tuition costs whilst at the centre. Please see the attached letter for more information and complete the online form with payment of £280 by Friday 14th February. Tuesday 4th February: School Photographers – Please note that on Tuesday 4th February school photographers will be visiting to take photographs of students in Upper Sixth. Parents will be given more information and the opportunity to purchase these photographs in due course.
