Coronavirus Update – Please see an update from Eddie Falshaw, Deputy Head, regarding Coronavirus. The School is continuing to closely monitor the guidance about Coronavirus from Public Health England. We are taking a proactive approach with regards to our own community and visitors to the School. Please also see the attached poster for generic advice from Public Health England. If families have any questions please email the Health Centre.

 

Friends of Leighton Park Music Volunteer Request - The Friends of Leighton Park Music are keen to hear from people that may like to join the community of parents who provide support at our musical events. If you would like to find out more information, or get involved at a few events each term or year, please do not hesitate to contact Rosemary Scales, Director of Music.

 

PSC Volunteer Vacancies - The PSC are seeking volunteer support on the committee for a Marketing Manager and Quiz Master/Researcher. If you are interested in finding out further information about these roles, or would like to express your interest, please email psc@leightonpark.com.

 

Chicago DVDs and Photobooks – The order form for Chicago DVDs and photobooks has now closed. We are looking forward to distributing them by the end of the academic year.


 

Events and Reminders

 

RSVP Thursday 12th March: The Foyer Jazz Club Concert – The second concert from The Foyer Jazz Club will feature global Jazz Vocalist, Joanna Eden. Joanna will be joined by the Stuart Henderson quartet and students from Leighton Park Jazz Groups. The concert will run from 7.30-9.45pm with a short interval, in the Michael Malnick Centre. Please see the attached poster for more information. Tickets are available to purchase here for £12 per person.

 

Friday 13th March: Afternoon Tea with Candy Gourlay – We are sorry to announce that the Year 8 author visit from Candy Gourlay, scheduled for Friday 13th March, has had to be cancelled. As a result, we are also cancelling the opportunity for parents and guardians to meet Candy in the Library over afternoon tea from 4.30pm. We are very sorry for the disappointment this may cause and are hoping to reschedule the afternoon tea for the Autumn term. If you should have any queries, please email Chris Routh, Librarian.

 

Friday 13th March: PSC Nearly New Shop – The Nearly New Shop will be available for purchase or donation of good quality, used sports kit and items of Collect Dress on Friday 13th March from 4.30-5.30pm. Despite ongoing building work in Fryer House, the shop will remain open here as usual. A price list is available here. If you should have any queries, please contact psc@leightonpark.com.

 

Sunday 15th March: DofE Presentation Ceremony – If you have received an invitation to join us at our Duke of Edinburgh Award Presentation Ceremony, please be reminded that the event will take place this Sunday. The dress code for the day is Smart / Collect Dress and refreshments will be available. Advice about visiting the Park in relation to the coronavirus outbreak is available here. We look forward to welcoming you at 2.30pm in Peckover Hall.

 

Thursday 19th March: House Music – A reminder that House Music is taking place from 6.30-9.30pm in Main Hall on Thursday 19th March. If you should have any queries, please contact Rosemary Scales, Director of Music.

 

Friday 20th March: EPQ and EE Expo – All are welcome to join our Upper Sixth EPQ and International Baccalaureate students as they showcase their fascinating academic research projects. Presentations will run from 6.30-8.30pm in the MMC Foyer and classrooms. Please see the poster attached and programme for more information. RSVP Tuesday 24th March: Exam Stress Management Parent Workshop - Parent Practitioner, Olga Zilberberg, will be leading the third parent workshop of this academic year, regarding stress management. Please see the poster here. Olga will be on hand to share useful tips to help your child manage revision and exam stress. RSVP Thursday 26th – Sunday 29th March: National Quaker Schools’ Concert Volunteers - For those students who have already volunteered to participate in the Quaker Schools Joint Choirs’ event at Bootham School in York, from Thursday 26th to Sunday 29th March, please see the attached letter from Rosemary Scales, Director of Music. If you would like your son/daughter to take part in this trip, please complete the online form ASAP. Friday 13th March: Fryer Parent Tea - Parents and guardians of Fryer students are warmly invited to the Fryer Parent Tea in Fryer House on Friday 13th March, from 4.30-5.30pm. This is primarily a social event for parents, although some members of the House team will be present. The Nearly New Shop will also be available in Fryer House from 4.30-5.30pm. Monday 11th May: Lauren James Author Visit Rescheduled – We are pleased to confirm that the author visit from Lauren James, scheduled for Monday 2nd March has been rescheduled to Monday 11th May. We are looking forward to welcoming Lauren later in the Spring and will share further details closer to the time. The information submitted via the form for parents/guardians to approve book purchase(s) at Lauren’s presentation will be carried forward. Academic Support Clinics – Academic support clinics are now available to students in Year 11, who can opt to attend academic clinics instead of hobbies and activities on a week by week basis. TV Production Workshops – Throughout the Easter and Summer periods, Ravensbourne University London are offering students the chance to attend a series of two-day workshops, which will take place in their studio in North Greenwich. Please see the attached notice for more information. At this stage Ravensbourne ask you to email shortcourses@rave.ac.uk to express your interest. RSVP Monday 20th April: Work Experience Placement Form Deadline – Lower Sixth students are asked to complete and return the attached form to Sally Saunders, Head of Careers, by Monday 20th April in order for their chosen work experience placement to go ahead during the week commencing 22nd June 2020. The form will be used to collate information enabling outside providers to carry out risk assessments where necessary.

 

RSVP Saturday 25th April: IBDP Biology Fieldtrip - On Saturday 25th April there will be an opportunity for all International Baccalaureate Biologists in the Lower Sixth, to visit Warburg Nature Reserve in Oxfordshire. This trip costs £10. Please see the attached letter for more information and complete the online form by Friday 27th March if you would like your son/daughter to attend. Monday 11th – Friday 15th May: End of Year Examinations - All Lower Sixth students will sit internal examinations during the week commencing 11th May. These examinations will cover the work completed during this academic year and give useful practice for the final examinations during Summer 2021. Please see the attached letter for more information.
