A reminder that pupils are expected to be at the College for any cricket, tennis and rowing commitments this weekend and that the boarders’ activity programme will be running. The College will be closed on Monday 1 May, but any full boarders staying onsite will be supervised.

Year 12 Parents' Conference

Please note that due to the Year 12 Parents' Conference on Friday 28 April, the buses will be leaving at the earlier time of 3.30pm. There will be no formal games or co-curricular activity programme but there will be a supervised sports session and a study session for boarders and any day pupils staying until 6.15pm, with the art department also open. Supper will be available and there will be the normal programme for boarders staying overnight.

Fees and Additional Charges Update

The College website has now been updated to show the new fee levels for 2017/2018. Please note that some charges such as bus transport are estimates only and subject to pupil numbers, but will be finalised as soon as possible.

Year 9 and Year 10 Science Exams

Year 9 – Internal Science exams will take place in lesson time during the week beginning Monday 22 May. These will be based on work covered so far since January this year. The results of these will be used to determine the Year 10 setting for September.

Year 10 – Although all Year 10 pupils will be sitting the external exam at the beginning of May, the results will not be published until mid-September. We will therefore be issuing internal Science exams that will take place in lesson time during the week beginning Monday 22 May. These will be based on work covered since January 2016 and may be used to re-set pupils in Year 11 in September.

Any queries regarding this should be directed to

Dr Bob Snellgrove
Head of Science

Year 13 Parents - Leavers’ Ball Tickets Available

All Year 13 pupils and their parents are warmly invited to attend this year’s Leavers’ Ball. The Ball will take place on Thursday 29 June in the prize-giving marquee in front of the pavilion and is strictly a black tie event. The event is always a great way for both parents and students to say farewell to one another and to celebrate their time as part of the Shiplake community. We see our parents as very much part of the community and it would be wonderful to have as many parents attending the Ball as possible.

The evening will begin with a drinks reception at 7.00pm, followed by dinner at 8.00pm, and a live band and disco. A ‘survivors’ breakfast’ will be held at 1.15am in the Great Hall.

Tickets are £65.00 each, and are available here. Further information is available here.

Message for Year 13 parents about Meningitis

Advice from the NHS; students going to university or college for the first time, including overseas, should contact their GP to have the Meningitis ACWY vaccine, ideally before the start of the academic year. The highest risk of meningitis is in the first year of university, particularly the first few weeks.

Those pupils who are registered at the Hart Surgery will be vaccinated at school by nurses from the surgery next week (date TBC). The pupils can give their own consent.

I would strongly recommend all students in Year 13 have the vaccination before they leave, or in the summer holidays.

More information can be found here.
