All Parents and Guardians

 

Dance Lessons: Please note if students cannot participate practically in a dance lesson due to injury please send written confirmation to Beth Butler in advance of the lesson.

 

Summer Term: Hobby Sign Up – The summer term co-curricular Brochure will be available here by 5.00pm on Friday 29 th March. Please discuss the options with your son/daughter over the weekend. All activities will be signed up for via the SOCS. Please ensure that your child intends to select activities that fit with their other commitments and the logistics of your family. The sign up closes on Monday 1st April.

 

 


 

 

Events and Reminders

 

Wednesday 27th March: IB Artists’ Exhibition – All are warmly invited to an exhibition celebrating two years’ worth of work by our International Baccalaureate Art students at 6.00pm tonight in the Michael Malnick Centre. Please view the poster here.

 

Thursday 28th March: Philosophy Bites All are warmly invited to the first Beliefs & Values Philosophy evening this Thursday at 6.00pm in the MMC and Main Hall. We will also be joined by former Sixth Formers in the department who are now undertaking a degree or masters in Philosophy at University. Please see programme here. CANCELLED Friday 29th March: Reports from a War Zone Please note the talk from Old Leightonian and Foreign Conflict Correspondent for The Observer, Shyam Bhatia, on the topic ‘Reports from a War Zone’ is now cancelled. Shyam has unfortunately broken his ankle and is unable to attend.

 

Friday 1st April: Film ClubFilm Club will be showing the hilarious and heart-warming ‘Pride’ a film which depicts a group of lesbian and gay activists who raised money to help families affected by the British miners’ strike in 1984. 6.30pm, Fryer Cinema Room. Please view the poster here.

 

Wednesday 1st May: Movies & Musicals Concert – 7:15pm – Main Hall for any student who would like to take part. Please see letter here.

 

RSVP Tuesday 14th May: Rambert Dance CompanyStudents are invited to watch our national dance company, Rambert, at Sadlers Wells on 14th May. Further information is in the attached letter. Year 7

 

Summer Term Music Events: Please see the attached letter from Maddie Cottom, Music Teacher, regarding summer term music events, some of which are compulsory. If you have any queries please contact Rosemary Scales, Director of Music.

 

RSVP Tuesday 1st July: Mandarin Students TripAn educational trip to the London British Museum is taking place on Tuesday 1st July 2019 for all Year 7 and 8 students studying Mandarin. The trip will provide both a stimulating day out for the students, as they will not only experience a different culture and history in the Chinese rooms in the British museum, but also taste different types of exotic food and snacks in China Town. We will be leaving school at 9.00am and returning to school at 5.30pm. Please see letter here for more details. A provisional booking for a party of 20 students has been made. The trip will provide an insight into the AQA GCSE Religious Studies syllabus A and focus on Christianity: Beliefs, Teachings and Practices. Please see letter for more information. Year 11 Academic Support Sessions - In order to support Year 11 students in their preparation for upcoming examinations, departments are running a number of regular academic support sessions at lunch times and from 4.30 – 5.30pm. RSVP Wednesday 19th June: Year 11 Prom - The Year 11 Prom - celebrating the hard work of the last two years, will take place on Wednesday 19th June. RSVP Saturday 11th May: IBDP Biology Trip - Lower Sixth students are invited to spend the day at Warburg Nature Reserve in Oxfordshire, practising fieldwork exercises relevant to the IB Biology syllabus. More details are available in the attached letter. If your son/daughter would like to attend please complete the online form by Tuesday 8th May. Please note there will be a small charge of £10 per student.
