Future Learn Course: Designed and run by the University of Reading, COVID-19: Helping Young People Manage Low Mood and Depression is a course recommended for parents who may need help at this time, as well as Lower Sixth students who are peer-mentoring younger students.

 

LP with You Survey: Thank you to all our parents and guardians who recently completed the second survey on our Guided Distance Learning Programme and LP@Home offering, following the changes implemented at the start of the Summer Term. Members of the Extended Leadership Team are currently analysing the feedback and look forward to sharing their thoughts with you shortly.

 

LP Donate: To support those in need during the coronavirus pandemic, we are collecting donations for our partner organisations. The items urgently needed by tonight 9.00pm, Monday 18th May, are books and games for children aged 5-10. The items urgently needed by 9.00pm, Monday 25th May, are outdoor play equipment. LP Radio Show: Last week, Upper Sixth students gave the gift of music to our local care homes, to help uplift the spirits of residents and staff during this difficult time. We hope the LP Radio Show will do the same for you!

 

National Book Tokens: £5,000 of National Book Tokens are up for grabs for one lucky school library, you can increase our chance of being picked from the draw by nominating Leighton Park.

 

Monday 18th May - PSC Book Group: Join the PSC Book Group to discuss ‘The Six Loves of Billy Binns’ by Richard Lumsden, this evening from 7.30-8.45pm. The gathering will take place over Zoom, for which you can obtain the login details by contacting Fiona Francis and Nicole Fox at pscbookgroup@leightonpark.com.

 

Wednesday 20th May: LP on Television!: Ross Kemp’s documentary series, ‘Britain’s Volunteer Army’ is airing on BBC One this week. The episode showing on Wednesday 20th May at 10.00am will feature Leighton Park’s face shields initiative, our partnership of 22 schools and 3 commercial organisations which has now delivered over 27,500 face shields to the NHS, keyworkers in the healthcare sector and beyond. It will be repeated on BBC Two at 6.30am on Thursday 21st May and shown on iPlayer following the initial broadcast.

 

Thursday 21st May: Whole Community 5K Run for Heroes - In support of the national Run for Heroes campaign, as a school community, we would like you to run and walk 5K with us on the afternoon of Thursday 21st May from 2.20pm. If you would like to make an optional donation, please visit our Team LP fundraising page. We welcome you to send photos and films of your family taking part on the day to Jeremy Belas, Director of Sport. He will be collating the event digitally, as a celebration of Leighton Park’s commitment to fitness and charitable fundraising.

 

Friday 5th June: Tim’s Marathon Fundraiser – Head of Boys’ Games, Tim Green, is currently training to run a marathon around the Park on Friday 5th June. He is raising money to help Whitley CDA support vulnerable families during this time, particularly those whose lives have been impacted by Covid-19. Sew your support for hospital patients and their families with a knitted pair of matching hearts. To help get you started we have provided written instructions and a video tutorial.
