All Parents and Guardians

 

Half Term Grade Sheets Half Term Grade Sheets for all students will be made available via the Parent Portal by the end of Friday 24th May. If you have problems logging on to the Parent Portal or viewing your child’s report please email Elaine Storey, Data Manager.

 

EHIC Card: With plenty of trips taking place abroad over the school year, students are advised to apply for a European Health Insurance (EHIC) card, which will give them the right to access state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in another European Economic Area country or Switzerland. More information can be found here.

 

Mouthguard Fittings: Mouthguards are required to be worn by all students playing rugby or hockey. Leighton Park uses Impact to professionally fit mouthguards. Please complete the attached form regarding fitting dates for the Autumn 2019 season. This form also gives you the option to ‘opt out’ should you wish.

 

RSVP Volunteers for STEAM Careers Fair: Leighton Park is hosting a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM) Careers Fair, on Monday 1st July and would love to hear from any parents or guardians who might be able to help. We are looking for individuals or organisations who could either deliver a presentation, run a workshop or host a stand on a STEAM related career. If you think you might be able to help, please contact Elaine King, Head of Careers, by Friday 24th May.

 

Sustainability Initiative: Leighton Park students are working on 14 sustainability projects and have challenged the community to think about what we can do to support a healthy planet for them to inherit. The School has established a grove in the Caledonian Forest and we would like to invite families to donate trees to help mitigate the global rise in CO2 emissions. If you feel able, please contribute to this initiative to support the dedicated work of our Change Champions. It costs £6 to plant one tree: https://treesforlife.org.uk/plant-trees/grove/8795/. Thanks to your generous support, more than 100 trees have already been donated.

 

Swimming Pool Access: We would like to make parents aware of the weekly opportunities for students to use the swimming pool. Please see the attached letter for more information. If you have any queries please contact Jez Belas, Director of Sport.

 


 

Events and Reminders

 

Wednesday 22nd May: Soloists’ Concert All are warmly invited to the Soloists’ Concert tonight, 22nd May, please note this concert is now taking place in the MMC Upper Foyer, from 7.15pm. Please see the attached programme and attached poster.

 

Tuesday 4th June: PSC Committee Meeting – All parents, guardians and staff are warmly invited to the next PSC Committee Meeting on Tuesday 4th June from 6.30pm to 8.30pm in the Cadbury Room. If you should have any queries please email psc@leightonpark.com.

 


 

Year 7

 

RSVP Language Options for 2019/20 Year 7 students moving into Year 8 next year should select a second modern foreign language from Mandarin, German or French while continuing their studies in Spanish. Provision for English as an Additional Language (EAL) is also available for eligible students. Please complete the attached form by Friday 24th May to select your son/daughter’s language choice for Year 8. Friday 14 June: FPQ Expo - Year 8 students will be showcasing their Fryer Project Qualification research on the evening of Friday 14th June from 6.00-8.30pm at our annual FPQ EXPO in the Michael Malnick Centre and Main Hall. This is a fantastic event where you will have the opportunity to be inspired and enlightened as our students present their findings on a diverse range of topics. We hope that all Year 8 students, parents and guardians will be able to able to attend to celebrate the hard work of our students as they come to the end of their time in Fryer. Year 9

 

RSVP Immunisation Survey - The School Immunisation Team for The Berkshire Health Care NHS Foundation Trust have requested parental feedback on the delivery of the Tetanus/Diphtheria/Polio, Meningitis ACWY and Targeted MMR Year 9 immunisations in the Spring Term 2019. Please complete the survey by tomorrow, Thursday 23rd May, by clicking on the link here.

 

RSVP Royal Institute Workshop – Students in Year 9 are invited to a series of workshops taking place at School hosted by the Royal Institute on Saturday 8th, 22nd and 29th June from 10.00am to 12.30pm in UAN2. The workshops will provide opportunities for students to engage in a real world problem, gain skills and apply them and then take the knowledge further using their own style and creativity. Skills taught will include computational thinking, web development and programming. Parents are welcome to stay or to drop off/collect their children. There are five places available on a first come, first serve basis. Please contact Peter Marshman, Head of Computer Science & ICT, to secure your child’s place or with any queries.

Year 11

 

Travel during Exam Period: We are aware of a number of significant roadworks, including those on the Reading IDR at Vastern Road, which may have an impact on travel times during the public examination period. It is essential that students arrive at School in good time for their examinations so please do check your route and adjust your usual travel plans if necessary.

 

Tuesday 18th June: Return of Chromebooks and Academic Text Books – Please see the attached letter regarding the return of all Year 11 students’ academic text books and Chromebooks by Tuesday 18th June.

 

Tuesday 18th June: Sixth Form Academic Induction Day – Year 11 Students joining the Sixth Form next September should arrive at Peckover Hall at 9.00am for the Academic Induction Day on Tuesday 18th June. There will be taster lessons and a discussion of some of the co-curricular activities on offer to Sixth Form students. Please bring your phone, notebook and a pen. Please wear Sixth Form Collect dress. A reminder of the dress code can be found on our website. If you are not able to attend on this day, please email Helen Taylor, Head of Sixth Form.
