Shiplake College - Weekly Bulletin

Dear Parents

Please see below this week's notices from the College.

Fee Affordability Survey

Thank you to all those who completed the Fee Affordability and Parental Time survey last term; the analysis report from education consultants Baines Cutler has now been received. There was a pleasing response rate of 37%, about average for a survey of this type, and this was representative of day and boarding type, year group and gender.

The results have provided us with a much deeper understanding of how fees are being met (for example through earnings, savings, relatives etc), and the potential risks to these sources. Information about employment circumstances, income profiles, other children’s school fees, work/time commitments and additional pressures faced by parents have provided an invaluable picture of our ‘affordability’, and whether we are good value for money.

The survey report, which also includes where parents would wish to see funds directed towards, will allow us and the governors to make informed decisions around setting fees, bursary budgeting and, consequently, our strategic and financial planning for the future.

Headmaster

Mobile Phone Ban

Many of you may have read in the Henley Standard last week about the positive impact the mobile phone ban (introduced this academic year) has had. The story has since been picked up by national newspapers and international news sites! In addition, Mr Davies gave an interview on TalkRADIO this morning, which you can listen to again here.

In relation to this, parents (and students!) may also find this YouTube video of interest, which addresses the addictiveness of 'electricals' and how important forming 'real' relationships are for a healthy and happy life. It is worth a listen!

Bras for Africa – Appeal

A recent documentary showed how the wearing of bras had impacted positively on the reduction of sexual assault and abuse against women in Africa. One of my local charity shops has started to collect them and were thrilled when I called in with a black bag full – they were not all mine! I plan to collect them on an ongoing basis and would be so grateful if you let me have any that you don’t need or want anymore. Huge thanks in anticipation of your support.
