Autumn Term Music Events – Please see the attached poster for information on musical events taking place throughout the Autumn Term. If you should have any queries please contact Rosemary Scales, Director of Music.

 

Scholarship Applications Deadline – We are keen to continue to encourage applications from our talented students for scholarships. Scholarships are available to those joining Year 7, Year 9 or Lower Sixth in September 2020 in Art, Drama, Music, Dance and Sport. If you would like to apply please see our Scholarship Booklet for more details and complete the appropriate Scholarship Application Form by Friday 15th November. Academic Scholarships are also available. The process for internal Academic Scholarships is not reflected in the Scholarship Booklet. If you would like to apply for an Academic Scholarship please contact Karen Gracie-Langrick or the Admissions team.

  


 

 

Events and Reminders

 

Christmas Shoebox Appeal – The School Houses are appealing for you to join them in generously packing shoeboxes for less fortunate children around the world. National collection week will run from next Monday 11th, until Monday 18th November. Please donate your box at Field House by Friday 15th November, in order for the School to deliver it to a local drop-off location. Details of what to pack, by age group, can be found here. Alternatively, Samaritan’s Purse have launched a new app where you can donate £20 for a box to be packed on your behalf. Should you have any questions, please contact Alex Leighton, Deputy Head of Field House.

 

Careers Drop-in Sessions – On Monday afternoons, all students now have the opportunity to attend drop-in sessions at lunch time, from 1.30pm, for support with any careers queries or to simply find out more about potential careers. The sessions will be in the Careers section of the Library with Sally Saunders, Head of Careers.

 

Great Ideals Reaffirmed: Leighton Park School and The Second World War’ - The School Archivist, John Allinson, and his co-authors Charlotte Smith and Penny Wallington have published a new book, which you can read more about here. Books are now on sale at £8.50. If you would like to buy one or more copies please fill in the attached form. If you wish us to post the book(s) to you please note UK p+p is £2.50 extra for one or two books. Non-UK postage: please enquire.

 

Friday 8th November: Friday Night Lights – The rescheduled 1st XV rugby fixture vs Reddam House will take place this Friday, at Maidenhead RFC. Kick-off is at 7.15pm and all are welcome. If you should have any queries please contact Andrew Gallacher, Head of Rugby.

 

Monday 11th November: PSC Book Club – All are welcome to join the PSC Book Club in discussing their current title, ‘Star of the North’ by D B John. The meeting will take place in the Library from 7.00 – 8.45pm on Monday evening with tea, coffee and biscuits.

 

Wednesday 13th November: Soloists’ Concert – The Soloists’ Concert will take place at 7.00pm in the Main Hall, Michael Malnick Centre, on Wednesday 13th November. All are welcome to attend.

 

RSVP Thursday 14th November: England vs Montenegro Football – 13 spaces are still available on a first come, first served basis to watch the England vs Montenegro Euro 2020 Qualifying match next Thursday 14th November, at Wembley Stadium. The cost of the trip is £20. Please see the attached letter for more details and if your son/daughter would like to attend please complete the online form. If you should have any queries, please contact Tim Green, PE and Games teacher. 

 

Tuesday 19th November: JBH Speech Competition - Parents and students are warmly invited to attend this year's JBH Speech Competition, taking place in the Main Hall, Michael Malnick Centre at 7.00pm. As one of the iconic events in the Leighton Park calendar, the JBH returns for the 105th year. It is an evening of exceptional public speaking, with this year's topics including why everyone should be pro-choice, why GMO's are the future of food and why free will is a farce. This unique competition also encourages audience participation with an opportunity to heckle the speakers.

 

RSVP Wednesday 20th November: Meet the Head – Parents are invited to an informal chat with members of the Leadership team and Matthew Judd, Head at 6.00 - 7.00pm, to answer any questions and talk about School life and the work that we do here. Attendance is entirely optional, please RSVP by Monday 18th November if you wish to attend. The venue will be confirmed in due course. The event is followed by the Jazz Infusions Concert.

Wednesday 6th November: Parents’ Consultation Evening – This evening, from 6.15pm parents are invited to discuss the progress of their child and meet with academic teachers in Oakview. RSVP Sunday 10th November: London Irish v Leicester Rugby Match - Your child has been sent an invitation via Reach (our boarding management programme) to join our boarders for a London Irish Rugby Match on Sunday afternoon, at the Madejski Stadium. Please see the attached letter for details and fill in the attached form, confirming agreement to your child signing-up via Reach if they wish to join us. There are only 10 tickets remaining, which will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis at the cost of £15.

Internships with InvestIN at UCL – Led by a group of experienced professionals, InvestIN deliver week-long programmes aimed at creating the ‘ultimate work experience’. Operating on a first-come, first-served basis, programme places are limited and usually full a couple of months in advance of the programme date. RSVP Friday 22nd November: Parents’ Consultation Evening – Parents and students are invited to discuss progress in the first year of GCSE study. Please see the attached letter for more information and details of how to book an appointment, which will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. RSVP Thursday 12th December: GCSE English Trip, Romeo and Juliet – Year 10 and 11 students are being offered the chance to attend ‘Romeo and Juliet’ as part of their curriculum in English Literature. Tickets will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, at the cost of £10. Please see the attached letter for more details and if your son/daughter would like to attend please complete the online form by Monday 18th November. Year 11 

 

RSVP Africa 2020 – Those interested in the Africa 2020 trips to Tanzania and Uganda, should be aware that places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis on receipt of the deposit and a completed application form, which must be returned to Helen Taylor. Please see the attached document for key trip information. If you should have any queries please contact, Helen Taylor, Head of Sixth Form, who will be able to forward enquiries to Beth Chapman from Inspire Worldwide if necessary.

RSVP Wednesday 27th November: An Inspector Calls GCSE English Trip – Year 11 English Literature students have the opportunity to attend Stephen Daldry’s multi award-winning production, ‘An Inspector Calls’ at the New Wimbledon Theatre. The cost of this trip is £45 and limited tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
