All Parents and Guardians

Senior Prefects 2019/20 –The Senior Leadership Team and Helen Taylor, Head of Sixth Form, have selected the following students as the Senior Prefect team for the next year, based on staff and student recommendations and chosen on merit: Head Boy - Joseph Barley; Head Girl – Jasmine Walker; Senior Prefects – Klara Pim and Megan White.

 

Half Term Grade Sheets Half Term Grade Sheets for the first half of the Summer term for all students were made available via the Parent Portal on Friday 24th May. If you have had problems logging on to the Parent Portal or viewing your child’s report please email Elaine Storey, Data Manager. 

 

EHIC Card: With plenty of trips taking place abroad over the school year, students are advised to apply for a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which will give them the right to access state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in another European Economic Area country or Switzerland. More information can be found here.

 

RSVP Mouthguard Fittings: Mouthguards are required to be worn by all students playing rugby or hockey. Leighton Park uses Impact to professionally fit mouthguards. Please complete the attached form regarding fitting dates for the Autumn 2019 season. This form also gives you the option to ‘opt out’ should you wish.

 

RSVP Volunteers for STEAM Careers Fair: Leighton Park is hosting a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM) Careers Fair, on Monday 1st July and would love to hear from any parents or guardians who might be able to help. We are looking for individuals or organisations who could either deliver a presentation, run a workshop or host a stand on a STEAM related career. If you think you might be able to help, please contact Elaine King, Head of Careers, by Friday 5th June.

 


 

Events and Reminders

Monday 10th-Friday 14th June: #LPGirlsCan Week 2019 – The second annual #LPGirlsCan Week will be taking place next week and includes a fabulous variety of activities and sports to engage our community in a celebration of women’s sport. Monday 10th June: Charity Pink Glitter Run/Walk – Launching the #LPGirlsCan Week is a 1K, 3K or 5K run/walk around the Park raising funds for Breast Cancer Research. All female staff and students are invited. Come dressed in your pinkest garments and get glittery for a good cause! Donations will be collected on the day. Meet at Top Field at 4.15pm. Tuesday 11th-Thursday 13th June: Drama Showcase – The Drama Dept have a number of opportunities to see our talented students perform next week. All are warmly invited to the Drama Showcase Night in the Drama Studio at 7.00pm on Tuesday 11th June, a performance of ‘Blood Wedding’ in Main Hall at 7.00pm on Wednesday 12th June and ‘Let’s Dance’ in Main Hall at 7.15pm on Thursday 13th June. Saturday 15th–Sunday 16th June: Whiteknights Studio Trail – Leighton Park is one of the host venues for this year’s art and design festival, the Whiteknights Studio Trail, which showcases paintings, sketches, jewellery, ceramics, multi-media and more from a variety of local artists. The exhibition will be in Peckover Hall from 11.00am to 6.00pm and will feature work by five artists, including our EAL teacher, Tom Cartmill, and two other artists with connections to the School. Wednesday 19th–Monday 24th June: Boom! Exhibition – All are welcome to the Summer show by our Art and Design students in the Foyer of the Michael Malnick Centre starting from 4.00pm on Wednesday 19th June. Please see the attached poster here.

 


 

Year 7

Friday 7th June: Fryer Parent Tea Parents and guardians of students in Years 7 and 8 are warmly invited to join Fryer staff and other Fryer parents/guardians for tea and coffee in Fryer House at 4.30pm this Friday afternoon.

 

Tuesday 11th June: French Trip Meeting  - There will be a meeting at 6.15pm on Tuesday 11th June in Fryer House to discuss the arrangements for the Year 7 trip to Cote d’Opale from Monday 24th to Thursday 27th June. Please see the attached letter for more details. If you are unable to attend, please be assured that the presentation from the evening will be emailed to you after the event. Please note that all travellers without a European Union passport should ensure their passport is given to Fryer House by Tuesday 11th June in order for the School to access the British Council’s List of Travellers. Year 8

West Wales Trip Information  - Please see the attached letter for information, including a kit list, regarding the trip to West Wales from Monday 24th to Friday 28th June. If you should have any queries, please contact Adrian Stewart, Head of Lower School (Fryer).

Friday 14th June: FPQ Expo - Year 8 students will be showcasing their Fryer Project Qualification research on the evening of Friday 14th June from 6.00-8.30pm at our annual FPQ EXPO in the Michael Malnick Centre and Main Hall. This is a fantastic event where you will be inspired and enlightened by our students findings on a diverse range of topics. We hope that all Year 8 students, parents and guardians will be able to able to attend to celebrate the hard work of our students as they come to the end of their time in Fryer. RSVP Thursday 20th June: Teen Tech STEM Event – There is an opportunity for five girls and five boys from Year 8 to join the team attending the Teen Tech Regional STEM event on Thursday 20th June. RSVP Thursday 27th June: Big Bang Fair South East - Students are invited to an opportunity to visit the Big Bang Fair South East which aims to engage and inspire students by exploring interactive exhibitions, meeting STEM role models and discovering STEM career opportunities. Year 10

RSVP: Monday 24th June: Physics Trip to Thorpe Park Year 10 Physics students are invited to study the science of rollercoasters at Thorpe Park on Monday 24th June. Year 11

Tuesday 18th June: Return of Chromebooks and Academic Text Books Please see the attached letter regarding the return of all Year 11 students’ academic text books and Chromebooks by Tuesday 18th June.

 

Tuesday 18th June: Sixth Form Academic Induction Day – Year 11 Students joining the Sixth Form next September should arrive at Peckover Hall at 9.00am for the Academic Induction Day on Tuesday 18th June. There will be taster lessons and a discussion of some of the co-curricular activities on offer to Sixth Form students. Please bring your phone, notebook and a pen. Please wear Sixth Form Collect dress. A reminder of the dress code can be found on our website. If you are not able to attend on this day, please email Helen Taylor, Head of Sixth Form. 

 

RSVP Friday 6th – Sunday 8th September: Sixth Form Adventure Weekend – Students joining the Lower Sixth in September 2019 are invited to PGL Adventure Centre trip on the Isle of Wight.
