All Parents and Guardians

 

Revised Term Dates for 2019/20: Please find attached the revised term dates for this academic year. You may be aware that the Government have moved the bank holiday from 4th May to 8th May to coincide with the 75th anniversary of VE Day. The term dates for 2020/21 are also available here and on our website.

 

Parents’ Evenings for 2019/20: Please see the attached reminder of dates for Parents’ Evenings during the forthcoming academic year. Further details for each event will be sent out closer to the time.

 

RSVP Advanced Performance Programme (APP): If your son/daughter is playing sport at county, regional or national level you might like to apply for a place on our APP. The APP supports students’ existing training regimes through additional strength and conditioning sessions, half-termly educational seminars and mentoring. To apply, or for more information, please see the attached form or the website. Applications should be sent to Andy Gallacher, Head of Rugby and Athletic Development, by Friday 20th September.

 

PSC Nearly New Shop – The Nearly New Shop, run by our Parent and Staff Community (PSC), will be open on Fridays 20th September, 11th October and 22nd November, from 4.30-5.30pm in Fryer House. A price list is available here. Donations of sports kit or school dress that are no longer needed are welcomed. If you should have any queries, please contact psc@leightonpark.com.


 

 

 

Events and Reminders 

 

RSVP Friday 13th September: Additional Mouthguard Fittings - Mouthguards are required to be worn by all students playing rugby or hockey. Leighton Park uses Impact to professionally fit mouthguards. The main fitting session took place last week but Impact are returning on Friday 13th September with capacity for an additional 50 students to be fitted for a mouthguard. If your son/daughter would like to be fitted for a mouthguard please complete the attached form. Please note that places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. If you have any queries please email Jeremy Belas, Director of Sport.

 

Monday 16th September: PSC Book Group - All parents, guardians and staff are welcome to join the PSC Book Group which meets twice a term in the School’s Library. The book choices and dates for this year are available here. For more information, please visit the PSC page on the website and select the book group tab. The next meeting is on Monday 16th September from 7.00–8.45pm, when we will be discussing ‘The Tattooist of Auschwitz’ by Heather Morris. Tuesday 17th September: PSC Meeting - All parents, guardians and staff are welcome to the Parent and Staff Community (PSC) Committee Meeting taking place in the Cadbury Room in Old School on Tuesday 17th September. From 6.30–7.00pm there will be an informal drop in session, where all are welcome to come and meet existing committee members over a coffee / tea. If you wish to stay on, you are also welcome to join the main meeting from 7.00-8.30pm. If you have any queries or would like further information, please email psc@leightonpark.com

 

Thursday 19th September: Scholars’ Award Ceremony - All our scholars, together with their parents and guardians, are invited to a Scholars’ Award Ceremony in the Foyer of the Michael Malnick Centre (MMC) on Thursday 19th September from 6.00-7.00pm. Light refreshments will be provided and students should attend in Collect Dress. If you have not yet responded to the invitation, please complete the online form.

 

Wednesday 25th September: Philosophy Evening - All are warmly invited to the next Philosophy Evening on Populism and Democracy in the Main Hall, accessed via the Michael Malnick Centre, on Wednesday 25th September at 7.00pm. Saturday 28th September: Annual Open Morning - Our students are the best ambassadors for our school whether they participate as guides, in activities or in classroom demonstrations. Parents and guardians are reminded that their child’s attendance at Annual Open Morning on Saturday 28th September is mandatory. Should there be any circumstances which may prevent your child attending, please contact your child’s Head of Section for consideration of your request to be excused. We anticipate the event will finish around 12.00pm.


 

 

 

Year 7

 

RSVP ISA Dance Competition 2019 - If your son/daughter would like to be part of the team entering the Independent Schools Association Dance Competition 2019, please contact Beth Butler, Dance teacher, as soon as possible. Further details are available on the attached poster.

 

Participation in Dance Lessons - If your son/daughter is unable to participate fully in the physical aspects of their dance lesson, please contact Beth Butler, Dance teacher, as soon as you are aware this is the case so that relevant alternative work can be prepared.

 

RSVP Friday 13th September: Evening Event - Parents and guardians of new Fryer students are invited to a welcome evening social event on Friday 13th September from 7.00pm to 9.00pm in Oakview restaurant. The evening is an opportunity to meet other parents and guardians, catch up with Tutors and talk to our senior team. Students are not expected at this event and we ask that families make other arrangements for their children. If you can join us and have not already done so, please complete the online form. If you should have any queries, please contact Adrian Stewart, Head of Lower School.

 

RSVP Thursday 19th September: Tutor Student Parent Evening - Please see the attached letter regarding the Tutor, Student, Parent Evening on Thursday 19th September. It gives information and also online booking instructions for Fryer Students in Years 7 and 8. The Parent Portal letters were posted to you in hard copy last week giving you the username and password you will need to log in. Please do not hesitate to contact School Office if you have not yet received your letter. The online booking system is now open for you to make your appointments and will close at 2pm on Wednesday 18th September.

 

Friday 20th September: Fryer Parent Tea - Parents and guardians are invited to the Fryer Parent Tea which will take place on Friday 20th September in Fryer House. This is an informal gathering of parents across both year groups in Fryer House. Whilst staff will be there, it is primarily an opportunity for parents to meet each other. The PSC Nearly New Shop will also be open from 4.30-5.30pm. If you should have any queries, please contact Adrian Stewart, Head of Lower School.

The cost is £25 per student. If your son/daughter would like to attend, please complete the online booking form by Monday 23rd September. The students will be given very similar information directly during their first CAS lesson so may choose not to attend, even if they are interested in participating in the Award scheme. Tuesday 17th September & Monday 7th October: GCSE Geography Field Trip – Students studying for the Geography iGCSE are invited to attend two different day field trips to the River Pang and Reading Town Centre. You will have received an email with a letter appropriate to your child’s group providing further detail. Please see the attached letters for information on Group 1 or Group 2. If you are unsure which group your child is, in or have any further queries, please contact Oliver Staines, Head of Geography.

Please complete the online form by Friday 13th September to indicate your attendance and to confirm your proposed method of payment for the outstanding balance of the trip (£550), which is due by Friday 20th September.
