Please see below this week's notices from the College.
Driving to College
The number of pupils who drive into College has burgeoned over recent years. I have reviewed parking availability on campus and there is insufficient space to offer onsite parking to anyone other than staff, visitors and sixth form boarders only. Parking in public spaces locally is very limited. In particular, we have received complaints from members of the community about the number of cars parked on Church Lane, which sometimes block the way for visitors to the church and for facilities services (such as waste collection). We have been advised by the Parish Council that warning signs will be placed on Church Lane where the road is too narrow for a parked car to allow sufficient access for emergency and utility vehicles. In addition, so many cars parked in the Church Lane turning circle has, on occasion, made egress impossible for residents and for boat club vehicles and we will be reducing the number of spaces available next year.
I am concerned that large numbers of cars combined with poor parking could, ultimately, result in an accident either to a pupil or local resident. As a result, effective September 2017, only Year 13 pupils will be permitted to drive to College in their own vehicle, with the exception of a small number of current Year 11s who have already received permission from me.

Depending on interest, there is the possibility of offering the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification here at College between 19 – 23 June for our Year 11 and Year 13 pupils who have finished exams.

SAVE THE DATE!
On Saturday 9 September there will be the Shiplake Barbecue and Dog Show followed by the Touch Rugby Tournament and Beer Festival!
This is a fantastic day for ALL members of the Shiplake Community to come together to celebrate the start of the academic year. Following the morning's rugby fixtures there will be a barbecue and cake sale and the Parents' Association will be running the ever-popular Dog Show, with categories ranging from waggiest tail to best trick. There will be a Beer Tent throughout the day (just £1 a pint!) and an inflatable assault course for the younger members of the family.
If any parent would like to take part in the Touch Rugby Tournament, please contact Kirsty Jelowitz to register your interest (firstname.lastname@example.org). It is free to enter and we already have three staff teams and numerous Old Vikings teams signed up to play so it is promising to be a cracker!
Second Hand Uniform Sale
There will be a second hand uniform sale, predominantly for parents of pupils joining in September, on Saturday 24 June (11.30am to 12.45pm in the Sports Hall). We would be grateful if parents are able to send in any items they no longer require.
All proceeds from sales go to the PA; if you wish to receive 50% of the sale price, please securely attach the labels to each garment (a safety pin is ideal). Any items without paperwork will be deemed as a donation.
We can accept blazers, black crested jumpers and ‘new-design’ sports kit items (introduced in September 2014). All items must be clean and in good condition. Please bring donations into Reception by Friday 23 June.
