Last Orders for Chicago DVDs and Photobooks – Relive the spectacular tale of murder, corruption and media manipulation with a DVD or Photobook of this year’s sensational Senior School production, available to purchase until this Friday, 6th March. Coronavirus Update - The School is continuing to closely monitor the guidance about Coronavirus from Public Health England. We are taking a proactive approach with regards to our own community and visitors to the School. For more information please see the attached letter from Eddie Falshaw, Deputy Head, which was emailed directly to all parents and guardians on Monday 2nd March. Please also see the attached poster for generic advice from Public Health England. If families have any questions please email the Health Centre.

 

MMR Community Immunisation Clinics - Please see the attached notice detailing the availability of community immunisation catch up clinics across Berkshire. Events and Reminders

 

Monday 2nd–Friday 6nd March: National Careers Week – This week PSHE lessons are focusing on advice around careers. The National Careers Week theme this year is ‘empowering change’. Students may wish to challenge themselves by taking on the ‘5 Days, 5 Ways to Boost your Career’ resource from Success at School. Wednesday 4th March: Scholars’ Concert –The Scholars’ Concert will take place tonight at 7.00pm in the Main Hall, Michael Malnick Centre. Please find attached, the programme for tonight. All are welcome to attend.

 

RSVP Thursday 12th March: The Foyer Jazz Club Concert – The second concert from The Foyer Jazz Club will feature global Jazz Vocalist, Joanna Eden. Joanna will be joined by the Stuart Henderson quartet and students from Leighton Park Jazz Groups. The concert will run from 7.30-9.45pm in the Michael Malnick Centre. Please see the attached poster for more information. Tickets are available to purchase here for £12 per person.

 

RSVP Friday 13th March: Meet the Author: Candy Gourlay - We would like to invite parents, guardians and staff to an afternoon tea with author, Candy Gourlay, advocate for diversity in children’s literature and author of a wide range of books from picture books like ‘Is it a Mermaid?’ to young adult fiction like ‘Bone Talk’ about the impact of the American invasion of the Philippines. Candy will be in conversation from 4.30pm in the Library on Friday 13th March and we anticipate finishing around 6.00pm. If you would like to join us, please email Chris Routh, Librarian.

 

Friday 13th March: PSC Nearly New Shop – The Nearly New Shop will be available for purchase or donation of good quality, used sports kit and items of Collect Dress on Friday 13th March from 4.30-5.30pm. Despite ongoing building work in Fryer House, the shop will remain open here as usual. A price list is available here.

 

Friday 20th March: EPQ and EE Expo – All are welcome to join our Upper Sixth EPQ and International Baccalaureate students as they showcase their fascinating academic research projects. Presentations will run from 6.30-8.30pm in the MMC Foyer and classrooms. Please see the poster attached and programme for more information. RSVP Tuesday 24th March: Exam Stress Management Parent Workshop - Parent Practitioner, Olga Zilberberg, will be leading the third parent workshop of this academic year, regarding stress management. Please see the poster here. Olga will be on hand to share useful tips to help your child manage revision and exam stress. Saturday 28th March: National Quaker Schools’ Concert – A number of Leighton Park students are participating in the National Quaker Schools’ Choir Concert, to be held in York on Saturday 28th March at 7.00pm. Upcoming PSHE Lessons - In their PSHE lessons in the near future, Fryers will be receiving a talk about puberty, changing bodies and hygiene with one of our nurses from the Health Centre. Friday 13th March: Fryer Parent Tea - Parents and guardians of Fryer students are warmly invited to the Fryer Parent Tea in Fryer House on Friday 13th March, from 4.30-5.30pm. This is primarily a social event for parents, although some members of the House team will be present. The Nearly New Shop will also be available in Fryer House from 4.30-5.30pm. TV Production Workshops – Throughout the Easter and Summer periods, Ravensbourne University London are offering students the chance to attend a series of two-day workshops, which will take place in their studio in North Greenwich. RSVP Saturday 25th April: IBDP Biology Fieldtrip - On Saturday 25th April there will be an opportunity for all International Baccalaureate Biologists in the Lower Sixth, to visit Warburg Nature Reserve in Oxfordshire. Monday 11th – Friday 15th May: End of Year Examinations - All Lower Sixth students will sit internal examinations during the week commencing 11th May. These examinations will cover the work completed during this academic year and give useful practice for the final examinations during Summer 2021. Please see the attached letter for more information. Upper Sixth

 

Mock Exam Week Study – If Upper Sixth students have no examinations on a particular day during Mock Exam week, they may wish to study at home if they feel this will be more productive. Parents are asked to email absence@leightonpark.com in addition to Helen Taylor, Head of Sixth Form, in advance with requests for home study.
